Our Topic
Inventions!
This term we will be learning about all of the weird and wonderful ways people have improved or changed the way we live due to their discoveries. From the wheel to the web, we will go back to the very first discoveries and inventions in the Stone Age to Tim Berners-Lee leading the way into the 21st Century.
As Scientists, we will work with electric circuits, exploring how they are used today and how Tesla, Edison and many others made their discoveries.
We will also learn about sound, how it travels and how to affect its pitch and volume. Knowledge that led Alexander Graham Bell to invent the telephone.
We will continue to develop our coding and programming skills, using variables and coordinates. In Geography, we will map routes and locate countries of Europe, identifying those where famous inventors or inventions originated. In DT, we will explore the products created and patented by inventors around the world and use research to design and construct our own products.
In Art, we will look at the invention of new styles over time, from the sketches of the first ever artists 100,000 year ago to Kandinsky's use of sound and Henry Moore's sculptures.
